Float fishing on Catamount Reservoir
The North Slope Recreation Area on Pikes Peak includes thousands of acres of woodlands and three reservoirs that make up part of the water supply for Colorado Spring. The Crystal Creek Reservoir can be seen from Pikes Peak Highway near Mile Marker 6. The North and South Catamount Reservoirs can be reached by a short drive off the highway near Mile Marker 7.
Anglers of all skills levels will find rainbow, cutthroat, brook and mackinaw or lake trout in the reservoirs. Crystal and South Catamount Reservoirs allow all types of fishing, however, only flies and lures are allowed at North Catamount.
Fishing is allowed from the bank, or from a row boat, canoe or belly boat. Motorized boating is not allowed on any of the reservoirs.
The official fishing season is May-October. Access to the reservoirs is possible through the Pikes Peak Highway Tollgate, where a fee will be charged for access (though it’s not as expensive as going to the summit).
